Miloslav Ransdorf, Member of the GUE/NGL group, passed away today
Statement by GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer.
“It is with deep regret that I announce the death of Miloslav Ransdorf, a member of our group since 2004, this morning.
“Miloslav Ransdorf was a Doctor of Philosophy, author of several books and studies, for example on the history of the reformation (Hus and Comenius), on Marx and on the origin of American political culture, on Kurt Konrad, on Luther and on Jefferson.
“He was Vice-Chair of Foreign Affairs of the Central Committee of KSCM, a member of the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic and a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic until 2004.
“As a member of the European Parliament and the GUE/NGL group, he was very active. He was Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and also a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
“Those people who knew him well and who had the opportunity to work with Miloslav know that he was an intellectual of high caliber and a hard worker. I consider that he is a big loss for our group and we will remember him for his human qualities, his intellectual skills and his deep political commitment.”
