Statement by Gabi Zimmer MEP, GUE/NGL President

Condemning today’s military escalation in Venezuela by Juan Guaidó, GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer has called on EU leaders to work to deescalate the situation and withdraw any support for Guaidó.

“Today’s moves to violate democratic structures in Venezuela are totally unacceptable. The constitutional institutions of the country must be respected. Europe’s focus should be on the welfare of the people of Venezuela and on working to prevent conflict in Venezuela and the wider region. This means defending the rule of law in Venezuela and lifting sanctions against the country.”
