Left-wing parliamentarians in Europe and Latin America united against foreign intervention
Left MEPs João Pimenta Lopes and Javier Couso were in Vienna this week for the 11th Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat).
For four days, MEPs and parliamentarians from Latin America discussed issues of common concern on both sides of the Atlantic.
GUE/NGL MEPs raised concerns over EU policy such as austerity, migration, militarism and free trade agreements. They expressed solidarity with the peoples of Latin America against imperialism. Women’s rights, climate change and environmental protection were also highlighted in the discussions.
Left-wing political forces held separate discussions that culminated in a joint declaration supported by MEPs and members of regional Latin American parliaments (Parlatino, Parlacen, Parlandino and ParlaSur).
The full declaration can be found here.
